What is a Poem?
DEFINITION OF POEM a poem is an arrangement of words containing meaning and musicality. Most poems take the form of a series of lines separated into groups called stanzas. A poem can be rhyming or no rhyming, with a regular meter or a free flow of polyrhythm. There is debate over how a poem should be defined, but there is little doubt about its ability to set a mood.
Identification A poem is identifiable by its literary and musical elements. For example, metaphor and alliteration are common in many poems. Another hallmark of a poem is its brevity, or ability to say much in few words. This requires layered meaning, as in the use of symbolism. A common example of symbolism is the bald eagle, which is a bird, but in the United States also represents the nation as a whole. A poem need not rhyme or contain a consistent meter to qualify as such, but those elements are also common to many poems. Features A poem can contain any number of features. Usually a poem is broken down into lines and stanzas. They can contain full sentences or just fragments, or a combination. The rules of grammar can be stretched, but this skill is a bit mysterious.
Many poets maintain that a poem must demonstrate mastery over one's vernacular even while circumventing it. A poem can be happy or sad, simple or complex, traditional or rebellious. Function The hallmark of a poem is that it says much in few words. It can exist within a framework of prose, or it can exist on its own. Its chief function is to lend insight, poking its nose into unseen corners, sniffing out signs of life where none were detected before. A poem can evoke awe, inspire action or provide food for thought. It can provide an amusing escape (as in humor), or it can command solemnity (as in religious hymns).
A poem can also function as an end unto itself. Benefits The benefits of a poem often begin where those of prose leave off. A poem can stretch the rules of grammar a bit more, using inventive line breaks or punctuation to accentuate a phrase. Poetry emphasizes the musical use of words for their own sake in addition to providing meaning and context. Brevity is another notable benefit of poetry.
Expert Insight The celebrated American poet Edgar Allan Poe said, "Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words." He believed that a poem was there to be an aesthetic thing unto itself, not just a vehicle for some other agenda. On the mysterious and ineffable nature of what constitutes a poem, the poet-naturalist Henry David Thoreau said, "My life has been the poem I would have writ / But I could not both live and utter it." In other words, poetry has a life of its own.

The Bottom Line of Angels and Demons
Angels and Demons
is Dan's Brown first Robert Langdon thriller. It takes place chronologically before The Da Vinci Code, although it doesn't matter which book you read first. Both books involve conspiracies within the Catholic church, but Angels and Demons has more action within Rome and the Vatican. Angels and Demons is a fast paced thriller that provides an entertaining escape for the reader.
Pros
•'Angels and Demons' is a fast paced page turner.
•The mix of religious and historical elements adds a unique twist to the mystery.
•Brown provides plenty of surprises.
Cons
•If you are put off by graphic violence, some descriptions may bother you.
•The religious elements might offend some people, especially Catholics. •Part of the ending is too far-fetched -- like an action movie.
Description
•'Angels and Demons' by Dan Brown was first published in 2000.
•Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Twilight Novel Review
The first Twilight novel sets the scene for a dark romantic saga and is bound to keep you reading into the vampire hours of the night. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (2005): Before the first Twilight book came on the scene, vampires had long belonged to the horror genre. When you mentioned the word vampire, literary works such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles came to mind. Twilight, however, was the first book to bring vampires to a mass readership and appeal to fans of horror, fantasy, and romance alike.
This has led to a new fantasy sub-genre, of vampire romance. So just what is it about this story that makes it so widely appealing? Is it the teen angst that we can all relate to, the idea of forbidden love, or the backdrop of imminent danger? Is it the story itself or the way Stephenie brings it to life on the page? For me, it’s all these things, and more. I love every moment of the story, the development of the characters, the discovery of Edward’s dark but alluring nature, and most of all Bella’s commitment to love above all things. For what is life if we don’t follow our hearts, regardless of the consequences?
The story
This, like all four Twilight books, revolves around 17-year-old Bella Swan. Bella moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona, to the rainy town of Forks, Washington, to live with her dad, Charlie. At first she’s depressed by the dismal weather and dreading her first day at school. But then she encounters the pale, brooding Edward Cullen and life in Forks becomes a whole lot more hnteresting. When Bella sees the Cullen siblings for the first time, in the school cafeteria, she can’t take her eyes off them. She is intrigued by their strangeness and fixated by their physical perfection. She finds herself drawn to Edward and is distressed when he in turn seems repulsed by her.
We later find out that he is, in fact, tortured by the effort not to drink her blood because it’s so inordinately appealing to him. Bella tries to resist her attraction to Edward but it is a fruitless effort. She is annoyed by his often-aloof behavior and, unaware of his vampire condition, can’t quite figure him out. But when he jumps in front of a van to save her, she is unconvinced by his claims that she imagined his super-human strength. That’s when she begins to wonder just who and what he is.

Hard work — Yet another dirty word
Hard work — Yet another dirty word.
Hard Work Defined
My definition of hard work is that which challenges you.
And why is challenge important? Why not just do what’s easiest?
Most people will do what’s easiest and avoid hard work — and that’s precisely why you should do the opposite. The superficial opportunities of life will be attacked by hordes of people seeking what’s easy. The much tougher challenges will usually see a lot less competition and a lot more opportunity.
There’s an African gold mine two miles deep. It cost tens of millions of dollars to construct, but it’s one of the most lucrative gold mines ever. These miners tackled a very challenging problem with a lot of hard work, but ultimately it’s paying off.
Masyarakat Madani
Pendahuluan
